Company, Dance Team &
Competition Information
Auditions for Company Class, Juniorette, Junior, and
Senior Dance Team are held at the end of May. The Company class is a class that
grooms students for competition. The Juniorettes are our newest group of students to
begin competing. The Junior team is made of students that have danced for several
years and attended numerous dance conventions & competitions. The Senior Team
members are advanced students.

Company Class Dance
Members are required to take Tap, Ballet and Jazz and attend Company Class, which is an hour
class that meets once a week. They are being groomed for the competition team, but
it is not required to eventually be on a dance team. They are required to
attend one dance convention and take part in performances for civic organizations
They will be offered other optional activities as well. They
should try to do some of them as well. They are fun, and they help you become a
better dancer. Learning to be dedicated and support the Dance Team
members is an important life lesson you can use all of your life.

2009-2010 Kinner & Co. Shooting Stars Dance Team
Team
Members are
required to take Tap, Ballet, Jazz and attend Dance Team Class, which is an hour class
that meets once a week. They usually compete
one routine their first year on the team. They
are expected to attend all extra rehearsals held in preparation for a dance competition. They are expected to attend two dance
conventions/competitions and two competitions only (no convention) each season in addition
to performing for civic organizations and nursing homes. Older members are also expected to captain
routines, mentor younger students, compete more routines and do student choreography.
Competition Rules
All Kinner & Co. dance students attending
competitions are to follow these rules. Other studios may or may not follow similar rules,
dont let that influence you.
·
Bring me a copy of your birth certificate, if this is
the first time you have competed with us. I must be able to prove ages, if we are
questioned. If you have competed with us before, I have it from last year.
- Be completely ready to perform (hair, costume, makeup, warmed up,
etc.) at least one hour before you are scheduled to perform. You never know when a
competition will be running early, and you must perform when they get to your dance. If
you will be getting ready at the competition, arrive much earlier. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO
WALK ON STAGE 1-HOUR BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED TIME.
- If you are missing
any of your costume, you will not be allowed to perform if we can not make all dancers
alike. Missing headpieces, incorrect shoes, missing gloves, wrong tights etc.
- You will receive a schedule about 1 week before each competition
(when I get it.)
- Dance Team Members are to wear required makeup in the way
specified. (see Kathy or Abby for instructions if you are not sure of requirements.)
- No nail polish (fingers or toes)
- No jewelry (including earrings) unless it is part of your
costume.
- No panties. Older girls please wear bras, making sure they are
completely covered by costume by safety pinning, if necessary) We recommend getting a
flesh colored convertible bra that has straps that may be placed in many different places
or be strapless, so you dont have to have several bras to go under several costumes.
Or, you can get a bra with clear straps or buy the clear straps separately and replace the
existing straps with them.
- Bobbi pin all headpieces, even if you think it is not necessary.
- Bring emergency supplies like extra tights, needle and thread,
clear nail polish for last minute runs and lots of safety pins and bobby pins.
- Do not eat or drink in costume. Please cover it up. Many costumes
are not washable.
- Bring snacks and money for food. There will be souvenirs
available for purchase if you wish.
- Be in costume at the awards ceremony. (we may want pictures
with trophies for the website or newspaper)
- HAIR: Follow
specified bun instructions. If hair is a different style than bun, be sure you know how to
do hairstyle.
- Cover your costumes when you are in the audience or anywhere
other than the dressing room. If you have a team jacket, wear it. Not only is it a good
cover-up it also helps us find each other.
- If you win an award doing a solo, it is yours to keep. All other
trophies are kept at the studio. All students should cooperate in getting a picture of
each group routine. We could then put the picture with the trophy.
- Your attitude and behavior to others is very important to me. I
expect you to represent the studio and yourself with respect. Compliment other
studios dancers, and be willing to meet new people. If they do not respond nicely,
just let it go, and dont be rude back to them. Also, it goes without saying that you
should support your classmates. Competition is not the time to bicker with each other. You
should come together and support each other. Remember also, if you feel good about how you
performed, that should be what counts. The scores you received are from judges who have
good days and bad days and specific likes and dislikes. It is wonderful to win, but you
must remember you are all winners to start with or you wouldn't be out there putting it on
the line. Enjoy the entire experience. Dont save your happiness until you get a
trophy.
- Audience behavior: Follow organizations rules, always, no
videoing. Remember to get up and move around between routines only. Students and their
guests should applaud for others. (believe it or not, some studios dont applaud for
others)
- It varies from competition to competition, but some charge an
admission fee so please be prepared.
